The Special Assistant and Advisor to the Republican President for Finance and Investment, Mr. Jito Kayumba, visited the Zambia Metrology Agency today (ZMA) where he met with the Executive Management team led by the Executive Director, Mr. Humphrey Nkobeni.
Mr. Kayumba was accompanied by the Drivers Desk from State House, an initiative established by His Excellency, President Hakainde Hichilema.
During the visit, Mr. Kayumba received a comprehensive presentation from the Executive Director on the Agency’s mandate and the critical support ZMA provides across various sectors of the economy, with particular emphasis on agriculture, mining, petroleum, and the MEDA project, among others.
Mr. Kayumba expressed deep appreciation for the Agency’s impactful work behind the scenes, describing ZMA as “the unsung heroes.”
“I love the fact that the institution aligns itself with the presidential pronouncements in executing your mandate. I appreciate how you connect the pronouncements to your work .You are the unsung heroes. On behalf of the 21 million Zambians, I say thank you,” Mr. Kayumba said.
He noted that many citizens buy petroleum products and various commodities without realizing the extensive background work ZMA undertakes to ensure accuracy in measurements and fairness in trade, guaranteeing consumers receive value for their money.
Mr. Kayumba also commended ZMA for being proactive, especially in addressing losses in transit within the petroleum sector.
He highlighted the forthcoming establishment of a Verification Centre and the planned signing of a Mutual Recognition Framework Agreement ( MRFA)between ZMA and the Tanzania Weights and Measures Agency set for this month as important steps toward enhancing regional cooperation and improving efficiency.
