The Zambia Metrology Agency (ZMA) today held its mid-year media briefing, providing a platform to reflect on our progress, highlight milestones achieved, and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to excellence in regulating measurements and providing technical measurement support across all sectors of the economy.
Key Achievements in the First Half of 2025
✅ Type Approval of New Instruments
- Approved seven (7) new models of measuring instruments for use on the Zambian market.
✅ Calibration Services
- Successfully calibrated 2,213 instruments and standards, surpassing the set target of 2,073.
- Achievement rate: 107% – a testament to our growing calibration capacity and efficiency.
✅ Statutory Verifications
- Conducted 38,735 statutory verifications against a target of 37,728.
- Performance rate: 103%.
✅ Inspections of Locally Produced Prepackaged Commodities
- Inspected 444,908 locally produced prepackaged commodities with an overall compliance of 95.2% to metrological requirements.

- Mealie meal – 97.3%
- Flour – 99.3%
- Roofing sheets – 100%
- Cement – 89.8%
- Building/construction blocks – 100%
- Putty – 99%
- Tile fix – 100%
- Animal feed – 98%
- Fertilizer – 100%
- Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) – 100%
✅ Imported Prepackaged Commodities
- Inspected 1,689,845 imported products, achieving a 98% compliance rate, well above the 92% target.
✅ Petroleum Sub-Sector
- Progress continues in the annual second-round statutory verification of fuel pumps, bulk flowmeters, master meters, and related instruments at retail service stations, oil marketing companies, and government facilities.
Supporting the 2025/2026 Farming Season
As custodian of Zambia’s national measurement standards, ZMA has commenced preparations to support the Farmers Input Support Programme (FISP).
- Working in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Zambia Agricultural Research Institute (ZARI), Seed Control and Certification Institute (SCCI), Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), and Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA).
- The inspections will focus on fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides, ensuring inputs meet declared specifications and quality standards.
- The exercise begins end of August 2025, ahead of the planting season, to safeguard farmers and build confidence in agricultural inputs.
